Matthew participated in the Asian American Public Health Youth Leadership Academy (AAPHYLA), a program sponsored by CCHRC in partnership with San Francisco Youth Commission and Asian Alliance for Health during the summer of 2013, and graduated with excellence in December, 2015. As a program participant, Matthew was involved in many tasks that promoted health education. As a team leader, Matthew was responsible for helping other team members, motivating and overseeing their work during project planning, and coordinating group activities. In this program, Matthew had the chance to exercise his organizational and task management skills. He possessed great leadership skills, resourcefulness, creativity, and ability to work under pressure and in a team environment. In 2016, Matthew was invited back to be the Youth Mentor for the AAPHYLA program.
